IMG_20140921_125835521Thanks so much to ~450 people who came out for the People’s Climate March solidarity events in Boulder and Denver this past Sunday, Sept. 21st!

While about 50 Coloradans represented us in NYC at the mother of all climate marches, with over 310,000 people(!), those of us who remained in CO had some fun of our own in solidarity with those marching outside the UN Climate Summit.

10247430_10152784191924703_743002017351629456_nThe Boulder “March for Mother Earth” was organized by an awesome Naropa Student Andrea Stout.  To our surprise, about 300 people gathered at 12:30pm outside the County Courthouse with fantastic signs and loads of energy.

Andrea and I thanked everyone for coming, urged them to think of more ways to get engaged in the movement (like getting involved with 350 Boulder County!) and praised the student leadership present, noting that Naropa was the 1st university in CO to make a commitment to divest from fossil fuels and honoring the CU Fossil Free campaign student leaders present.

ButterfieldsThe “Solidarity Singers” with Rocky Mt. Peace and Justice Center led us in a rousing rendition of “Do It Now”.  Then we marched chanting along Pearl St. with lots of smiles and thumbs up from the crowd gathered for the Fall Festival up Walnut and Canyon and back to the Courthouse for a moment of silence to think of the places we love that we are working to protect before gathering emails and saying goodbye.

It might sound cheesy, but it really did melt my heart to see all of you! We definitely were a part of history today!”

About 120 people met at the State Capitol to rally and march.

Thank you again to all of you for stepping up and taking action.  When the people lead, the leaders will follow.
